Does an SSL certificate secure both www.yourpersonaldomainname.com and yourpersonaldomainname.com
No, an SSL certificate only secures the exact, fully-qualified domain entered as the Common Name in your certificate signing request. Thus, if your certificate secures "www.yourpersonaldomainname" it will not secure the domain "yourpersonaldomainname.com." If a user types in "yourpersonaldomainname.com" (without the "www") he/she receives a warning about the validity of the certificate. If you need to secure both domains you must request an SSL certificate for each of them. Alternatively, you can contact your domain registrar and request that your DNS records are set up so that typing in "yourpersonaldomainname.com" automatically resolves to "www.yourpersonaldomainname.com."

Generating a Certificate Signing Request (CSR)
In order to purchase an SSL certificate, you must first generate and submit a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) to the Certification Authority (CA). Your Web server software generates the CSR and creates your public/private key pair that you will use to encrypt and decrypt secure transactions. If you are applying for an SSL certificate for a domain that is hosted with us, we generate and submit the Certificate Signing Request (CSR) for you. For specific Certificate Signing Request (CSR) generation instructions for all supported Web server software, click the link below: CSR-Generation Instructions
How do I install my SSL certificate?
To install your certificate, you need the original private key, which was created when you first generated your CSR. If you cannot find this key, or it cannot be accessed, you cannot use the certificate and you have to get a new one. For more information, see the installation instructions for supported Web server software.
How does a SSL certificate work?
SSL certificate secures safe, easy, and convenient Internet shopping. Once an Internet user enters a secure area — by entering credit card information, email address, or other personal data, for example — the shopping site's SSL certificate enables the browser and Web server to build a secure, encrypted connection. The SSL "handshake" process, which establishes the secure session, takes place discreetly behind the scene without interrupting the consumer's shopping experience. A "padlock" icon in the browser's status bar and the "https://" prefix in the URL are the only visible indications of a secure session in progress.
How will my customers know that my site is secure?
A "https://" prefix in the URL and a key or padlock icon in the browser's status bar indicate that a Web site is secure. An SSL-encrypted session usually starts once a visitor signs in to a secure area of a Web site, such as the checkout or account-management area of an online store.
Installing an SSL Certificate on Your Dedicated Server
To obtain an SSL certificate for a Web site hosted on your dedicated server, you must first generate and submit a certificate signing request (CSR) to your Certification Authority (CA). Once the CA has received the CSR, it will process the certificate request and, if the authentication process is successful, issue a signed certificate for your Web site. The CA will provide you with CSR-generation and certificate-installation instructions.
Requesting Your SSL Certificate
Before you can start performing secure transactions from your Web site, you must submit a certificate request to our Certification Authority (CA) partner, which authenticates the identity of your business and/or your domain registration before issuing a signed certificate.
What does it mean to re-key a certificate?
Re-keying is the process of replacing an existing SSL certificate. Specifically, re-keying entails:
